Broken Bay Celebrates with the Universal Church

In 2022 the Holy Father initiated the process of preparing for a Year of Jubilee to be held in the Church in 2025, and to be preceded by a Year of Prayer in 2024. This was announced in a letter to the President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization.

As dictated by custom, the Jubilee Year was then proclaimed officially through the publication of a

Papal (or Pontifical) ‘Bull of Indiction’ bearing the seal of the Pope.

Historically, each Papal Bull has been identified by its opening words. When St John Paul II pronounced the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 it was called Incarnationis Mysterium, (The Mystery of the Incarnation), and when Pope Francis proclaimed the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy of 2015, the Bull was called Misericordiae vultus, (The face of mercy).

To proclaim the Jubilee Year of 2025, the Bull Spes non confundit was given in Rome at Saint John Lateran Basilica on 9th May 2024, the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As the Diocese of Broken Bay joins with the rest of the Church in embarking upon the Jubilee Year as “Pilgrims of Hope,” you can read a message from Bishop Anthony Randazzo to the people of our Diocese here.

Jubilee Prayer

Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in
your son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of
charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of
your Kingdom.

May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators
of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds
transform from within both humanity and the
whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new
heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers
of Evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us,
Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the
treasures of heaven. May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.

To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen
